Sick pay, benefits and e-ZLA in the payroll run
HR and payroll. Content verified: 12 October 2026.
What it is for
The payroll run calculates sick pay and benefits instead of the former estimate with a manual correction. As a result, an employee on sick leave (L4) appears on the payroll with an amount calculated according to the rules, not with a full salary.
- The base comes from 12 months: from approved payroll runs in Zaksio or from manually entered salary history. Incomplete months are supplemented, and excluded components are omitted.
- The benefit amount is 80% of the base, or 100% (in specific cases).
- Sick pay is paid by the employer for 33 or 14 days a year (depending on the employee's situation), taking into account the turn of the year and consecutive periods of incapacity. After that, the sickness benefit applies.
- The benefit is paid by the payer when it registers more than 20 people for insurance (this can be overridden in the HR profile). In other companies, the benefit is paid by ZUS outside the payroll run.
- In the case of an accident at work, the benefit is payable from the first day, and the required qualifying period is checked.
Where to find it in the app
HR and payroll, "e-ZLA" tab: "Add sick leave" (manually) and "Import e-ZLA report" (a file from PUE). On the employee's page: "Add absence" (sick leave L4) and the "Sick pay estimate" window, which shows the base and amounts up front. You enter the salary history from previous months in the employee's "Payroll data" window. On a payroll item with L4 you can see the breakdown: sick pay, benefit (who pays it) and leave periods with the base and percentage.
Step by step
- Enter the sick leave as an e-ZLA ("Add sick leave") or import the raport.xml file downloaded from PUE ZUS ("Import e-ZLA report").
- If the company does not have payrolls in Zaksio yet, enter the employee's salary history for the last 12 months in their "Payroll data" so that the system has a base.
- Prepare the payroll run for the month. The employee's line contains pay for days worked and the sickness benefit.
- If the base is missing, the item is an explicit problem on the payroll and blocks approval. The system does not guess the amount.
- Check the result and approve the payroll run. A benefit paid by the payer carries a PIT advance and is deducted in the DRA return.
e-ZLA
ZUS provides payers with a service for downloading e-ZLA reports: you set the login and password yourself in PUE, and the report arrives as a password-protected ZIP file with raport.xml. You upload the file yourself. The e-ZLA fields do not describe an accident at work, so the HR officer establishes this circumstance from other documents.
