VAT and JPK_V7: how to prepare a draft return

Accounting and finance. Content verified: 12 October 2026.

Required data

  • Settings, "Company": NIP, address and "VAT settlement" (monthly or quarterly; no JPK is generated for an exempt company).
  • Settings, "Taxes (JPK)": the tax office code (4 digits), taxpayer type and contact email; for an individual also first name, surname and date of birth.
  • The variant is V7M for monthly settlement and V7K for quarterly. For V7K, choose the last month of the quarter (3, 6, 9 or 12).

How to prepare a draft

  1. Go to VAT / JPK, "New return" tab, choose "Period (month)" and click "Preview". The preview saves nothing.
  2. Review the "Return notes" and the table of lines. Some lines may need to be verified by an accountant.
  3. Optionally tick "Include invoices not sent to KSeF as BFK". Without this, sales invoices without a KSeF number block the return.
  4. Tick "I have read the return instructions". The system never ticks this for you.
  5. Click "Create return draft". The new draft replaces the previous, unapproved one.

The sales register includes sales invoices by issue date and credit notes by the credit note's VAT period date. The purchase register includes posted purchase invoices with deductible VAT (foreign currency purchases in PLN values). The surplus from the previous period is taken from the approved or filed return for the previous period; if there is none, the system assumes 0 and warns you. Anna proposes preparing a draft herself once the period has ended and the tax profile is complete.

Approval and download

  • Return details: the "Download XML" button (file JPK_V7M_YYYY-MM.xml).
  • "Approve" closes the draft. An approved return cannot be changed or replaced with a new draft.
  • After filing outside Zaksio, click "Mark as filed" and optionally enter the UPO reference number. This marking is manual and closes the relevant deadline in the calendar.
